Round-Robin Fixture Generator
Type your team names, pick single or double round-robin, and get every round and match in order. Odd numbers of teams get a bye each round, and nobody plays twice in the same round.
What the Round-Robin Fixture Generator Does
A round-robin means every team plays every other team. Writing that out by hand for a club league is where mistakes creep in: a team accidentally gets two matches on the same day, or two teams never meet. This generator uses the standard “circle method” to produce a complete schedule where each team plays at most once per round and every pairing appears exactly once (or twice for a double round-robin).
How the Circle Method Works
Pair the teams off in two columns, then fix the first team in place and rotate everyone else one position for each new round. After n − 1 rounds, every team has met every other team. If you have an odd number of teams, a placeholder “bye” team is added so the numbers work, and whoever is paired with it sits out that round.
The Formulas
Matches = n × (n − 1) ÷ 2 | Rounds = n − 1 (even n) or n (odd n)
Worked Example: Five Teams
Teams A, B, C, D and E give 5 × 4 ÷ 2 = 10 matches. Because five is odd, you get five rounds of two matches each, with one team on a bye in every round, and each team plays exactly four matches.
Planning Your Tournament Around the Fixtures
- Check the match count against your ground hours. Ten teams in a single round-robin is 45 matches. If that is too many, use groups. Our guide to organising a cricket tournament covers formats.
- Plan for rain. Leave reserve slots, and decide in advance how points and bonus points work for abandoned games.
- Settle the tiebreakers early. Teams level on points are separated by net run rate; once matches are played you can check standings with the points table calculator.
- Check bowler limits per format. Use the bowler over limit calculator for the match length you choose.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many matches are in a round-robin tournament? +
With n teams, a single round-robin has n × (n − 1) ÷ 2 matches. Six teams play 15 matches, eight teams play 28 and ten teams play 45. A double round-robin, where every pair meets twice, has twice as many.
How many rounds does a round-robin need? +
With an even number of teams you need n − 1 rounds, because every team plays in every round. With an odd number you need n rounds, because one team has a bye in each round. Seven teams therefore need seven rounds in a single round-robin.
What is a bye in a cricket fixture list? +
A bye is a round in which a team has no opponent. It only happens with an odd number of teams. The generator adds an imaginary extra team, and whoever is paired with it sits that round out. Check your league rules on how a bye is treated in the table, since most leagues award no points for one.
Does the generator balance home and away fixtures? +
It alternates the venue for the first-listed team and uses a return leg that swaps every home and away pairing in the double round-robin option. For the most evenly balanced home and away split in a league with strict ground rules, check the list yourself and swap venues by hand where needed.
Can I change the fixture order or dates? +
Matches inside a round can be played in any order or on the same day, so you can assign dates and grounds freely within a round. Moving a match to a different round is fine as long as no team is scheduled twice at once.
What if I have more than 20 teams? +
Split the teams into groups and run a round-robin in each group, then play a knockout between the group winners. That is how most big tournaments, including the IPL and World Cups, keep the number of matches manageable.
