Abu Dhabi T10 2026: Format, Points Table and NRR Explained

The 2026 Abu Dhabi T10 runs 7-20 November at Zayed Cricket Stadium with six teams on a double round-robin, the table-topper going straight to the final and teams two and three meeting in a Qualifier. This guide explains that structure, why net run rate matters so much in a 10-over tournament, and walks through the calculation.

The Abu Dhabi T10 is back on 7 November 2026, and this year it is a relaunch. Coverage in the UAE press describes a new ownership structure, five new franchises alongside the founding UAE Bulls, and a fresh playoff shape. Ten-over cricket is brutal on tables: every run and every ball counts, and a side that loses one game badly can be chasing it for the rest of the event. This guide covers the reported format, what it means for the points table, and how net run rate (NRR) works in a 10-over game.

A note on sources: the tournament details below come from news coverage of the relaunch, not from the playing conditions, which we could not read at the time of writing. Where a rule is a standard limited-overs convention rather than a confirmed Abu Dhabi T10 rule, we say so.

How the Format Shapes the Table

Six teams give 15 different pairings, and playing each pairing twice makes 15 x 2 = 30 league matches, 10 for each team. If the reported structure holds, the Qualifier and final add two more for a 32-match tournament.

The reward for finishing first is large: a direct place in the final. The teams in second and third play a Qualifier where one loss ends the run. That makes the gap between first and second worth far more than the gap between fourth and fifth, and it means the tie-break between teams level on points decides who gets the bye.

Points and Tie-Breaks

We have not confirmed this season’s points scheme. Most franchise leagues award 2 points for a win, 1 each for a tie or no result and none for a loss, then separate level teams on wins and then NRR. Treat that as the common pattern, not the Abu Dhabi rule, until the official conditions are published. For how bonus points change a table, see our guide to league bonus points.

Net Run Rate in a 10-Over Game

NRR is runs scored per over minus runs conceded per over, across all of a team’s matches. We have a full walkthrough in how to calculate net run rate. In T10 the numbers are small and the swings are big, so the rule on all-out innings matters.

The all-out rule

If a team is bowled out inside its overs, the standard limited-overs convention is to count the full quota (10 overs) as overs faced. A side dismissed for 80 in 7.3 overs is treated as 80 runs from 10 overs, an 8.00 run rate, rather than the 10.7 their actual 7.3 overs would imply. If the chasing side wins early, its real overs are used.

Worked example

Team A makes 100/5 in its 10 overs. Team B chases 101 and gets there for 3 wickets in 8.4 overs (52 balls).

TeamScored per overConceded per overMatch NRR
Team B101 / (52/6) = 11.65100 / 10 = 10.00+1.65
Team A10.0011.65-1.65

Notice the 8.4 overs must be converted to 52 balls (8 x 6 + 4) before dividing; using 8.4 as a decimal would give the wrong answer. Our overs to balls converter does that step, and the net run rate calculator handles a whole tournament at once.

What to Watch as the Table Builds

  • Early wins by large margins bank NRR that may decide the bye. Chasing sides who finish a game quickly gain most.
  • Powerplay overs. T10 uses a short mandatory powerplay and a floating one; read our T10 rules guide and powerplay rules for the detail.
  • Ties. A tied league game may go to a Super Over; see Super Over rules and check whether the result counts as a tie for the table.
